Tevita Nonu was stunned when he received the news. The 2027 defensive lineman from Washington had exchanged messages with Notre Dame defensive line assistant Nick Sebastian on social media before speaking with him on the phone. During the call, Nonu learned that Notre Dame was offering him a scholarship, a moment he described as unbelievable.
Already holding offers from schools like Washington, Oregon State, and Cal, Nonu quickly added Arizona to his growing list of suitors after receiving Notre Dame’s offer. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound standout from O’Dea High School was particularly impressed by the Irish, acknowledging their strong football program and history of player development.
Nonu had been in touch with both Sebastian and Irish defensive line coach Al Washington in the weeks leading up to the offer. While he doesn’t have a set date yet, he expressed a strong desire to visit South Bend and learn more about Notre Dame’s storied program, culture, and how they develop their players.
In the near future, Nonu plans to visit Washington State, but he already has a clear idea of what factors will influence his college decision. Above all, he values the coaching staff, the school’s culture, and its ability to develop players both on and off the field.
