Five-star 2025 shooting guard Alijah Arenas revealed his commitment to USC on Thursday during the latest episode of the Gil’s Arena podcast, hosted by his father, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.
Arenas made his announcement by calling USC head coach Eric Musselman live on air. This is a major victory for the program, as Arenas is ranked seventh on the 247Sports Composite list for the 2025 men’s basketball class.
Arenas plays for Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, California, where scouts, including Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports, have praised his performance.
In October 2024, Finkelstein described Arenas as “a smooth-scoring guard with excellent positional size and length.”
He’s somewhat of a late-bloomer, having grown steadily throughout high school, and now stands nearly 6-foot-6 with an impressive 7-foot wingspan and an 8-foot-9 standing reach. Additionally, he possesses elite, almost adhesive-like hands.
Finkelstein also described Arenas as “a striking talent amid a late growth spurt” with “significant long-term potential.”
According to 247Sports, 20 teams extended offers to Arenas, including his father’s former school, Arizona. Other major programs that pursued him included Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, and UCLA.
However, he will be joining USC, which is also bringing in two 4-star recruits for the class of 2025: shooting guard Jerry Easter (No. 45 overall) and combo guard Elzie Harrington.
