JuJu Watkins, a standout guard for the USC Trojans, has made history by becoming the first shooting guard to win the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award multiple times. She earned this prestigious honor in both her freshman and sophomore years, recognizing her as the nation’s top shooting guard in women’s college basketball.
In addition to her back-to-back Ann Meyers Drysdale Awards, Watkins has garnered several other significant accolades. She was named the Associated Press (AP) Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, becoming only the fourth sophomore to receive this honor since 1995.
She also secured the Naismith College Player of the Year and the USBWA National Player of the Year awards, further cementing her status as one of the premier talents in women’s basketball.
Watkins’ exceptional performances have not only led to personal accolades but have also significantly contributed to USC’s success. Her leadership and skill have propelled the Trojans to their best season in nearly four decades, including their first regular-season conference championship in 31 years. Her impact on the court, combined with her community involvement and marketability, has drawn increased attention to USC women’s basketball, attracting larger audiences and celebrity interest.
