Several Alabama coaches traveled from Tuscaloosa to South Florida on Thursday, where they visited 2026 four-star running back Derrek Cooper.

Cooper, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound running back from Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in Hollywood, Florida, had an impressive junior season, recording 124 carries for 906 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Last week, Alabama running backs coach Robert Gillespie paid Cooper a visit. This time, head coach Kalen DeBoer, wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard, offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, general manager Courtney Morgan, and Gillespie all stopped by his school.

Over the past two weeks, coaches from Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State, and Georgia have met with Cooper. If Alabama can get him on campus, it could significantly boost the Crimson Tide’s chances in his recruitment.

Cooper will remain a priority target for Alabama moving forward. The coaching staff plans to coordinate a date for his official visit while maintaining regular communication with him in the meantime.
