The New York Jets’ partnership with star wide receiver Davante Adams could be short-lived. After acquiring the former All-Pro in a mid-season trade, Adams and the Jets may go their separate ways during the 2025 offseason. Reports suggest the superstar has his sights set on the West Coast.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Jets need to make a decision regarding Davante Adams, as his $38.3 million cap hit is unsustainable. According to a source, Adams is interested in returning to the West Coast and would consider joining teams like the Rams or Chargers if released. Fowler also mentioned the 49ers as a potential landing spot, noting that Adams is originally from Northern California.Adams remains a valuable asset for the Jets. The 32-year-old receiver had an impressive 2024 season, recording 1,063 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 85 catches while playing for both New York and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Despite adding the three-time First-team All-Pro midseason, the Jets couldn’t turn their season around and ended with a 5-12 record. However, with a talented group of wide receivers and a strong backfield, they have the pieces to make a serious playoff run next season.
Adams may be reluctant to play with a rookie quarterback, especially with the Jets and Aaron Rodgers expected to part ways. A key reason for his arrival in New York was to reunite with Rodgers, his former Green Bay Packers teammate from 2014 to 2021.
If Adams leaves, the Jets will have two major positions to fill, either through free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft. Holding the No. 7 overall pick, they will have opportunities to address both wide receiver and quarterback when the time comes.
