In a Wednesday statement, the school announced that 21-year-old offensive lineman Ben Christman—who had recently transferred to UNLV from Kentucky and Ohio State—was found dead in his off-campus apartment. Officials added that they have no further details about his death, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office in Nevada is investigating the cause.
UNLV head coach Dan Mullen expressed the team’s deep sorrow over Ben’s death. He noted that from the moment Ben arrived on campus just a month ago, he positively transformed the Rebels program. Ben quickly became an obvious choice for the Leadership Committee, having earned the respect, admiration, and friendship of his teammates. Mullen extended heartfelt condolences to Ben’s family and all who knew him, stating that Ben made the world a better place and would be greatly missed.
University President Keith E. Whitfield expressed his deep sorrow upon hearing of Christman’s death. He remarked, “Nothing can truly lessen the pain of suddenly losing a young member of our university family, and my heart aches for everyone who cared for him.” Whitfield extended UNLV’s heartfelt condolences to Ben’s family, friends, loved ones, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time.
Christman spent two seasons at Ohio State before transferring to Kentucky. He missed the 2023 season due to a knee injury but returned to play on special teams in 2024, according to CBS Sports.
