New Jersey defensive end CJ Edwards announced his commitment to Tennessee football on Tuesday afternoon, as first reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Edwards did not announce a list of top schools but had offers from Michigan, Boston College, Duke, Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, and others.
While unranked in the 247Sports Composite, the On3 Consensus rates the 6-foot-5, 215-pound edge rusher as a three-star prospect and the No. 807 player nationally. He is also ranked as the No. 78 edge rusher and the No. 16 player in New Jersey for the 2026 recruiting cycle.
The three-star recruit had scheduled an official visit to Tennessee for the summer but committed to Josh Heupel and his staff before making a trip to Knoxville. During his recruitment, Edwards visited Michigan twice—once for the Wolverines’ loss to Texas and again earlier this month for a junior day.
Edwards becomes Tennessee’s eighth commit in the 2026 class and the second defensive lineman. However, while Alabama three-star Tyson Bacon, who committed in October, is an interior lineman, Edwards plays as an edge rusher.
Tennessee football’s 2026 recruiting class, which features eight commits, is currently ranked No. 7 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings. Notably, every team ranked ahead of the Vols has more total commits at this stage.
