The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran cornerback Darius Slay, a key contributor to their recent Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. This decision, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, marks the team’s first significant move of the offseason. Slay, a six-time Pro Bowl player, had one year remaining on his contract. The release, designated as post-June 1, will save the Eagles $4.3 million in cap space.
In addition to Slay’s departure, the Eagles face several critical roster decisions as free agency approaches on March 12. Notable players entering free agency include linebacker Zack Baun, who had an All-Pro season with 151 tackles and five forced fumbles, and defensive linemen Josh Sweat and Milton Williams, both of whom played pivotal roles in the team’s defensive success.
The team is also reportedly exploring significant acquisitions to bolster their defense further. There is genuine interest in trading for Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. While the Browns have stated they are not looking to trade Garrett, the Eagles’ aggressive pursuit indicates their commitment to strengthening their roster for another championship run.
