After three seasons with the Panthers, impending free agent Austin Corbett expressed frustration with ESPN reporter David Newton’s portrayal of him ahead of the offseason.
Corbett criticized David Newton for reporting that he wants to play without competition at his position, asserting that the reporter “doesn’t know a thing” about him.
Austin Corbett refuted a report by David Newton claiming he wants to avoid competition, criticizing the reporter for misrepresenting him despite covering the team for three years. Corbett, who signed with Carolina in 2022 and restructured his deal in 2023, became a key piece of the Panthers’ offensive line and built chemistry with Bryce Young, though injuries limited him to nine games over the past two seasons, including a torn bicep that ended his 2024 campaign.
Despite his injuries, Corbett is projected to be a top interior offensive lineman in the 2025 free agency class, with his versatility at guard and center making him a highly desirable asset for teams.
Austin Corbett is one of 21 Panthers set to become unrestricted free agents, alongside notable names like Shaq Thompson, Andy Dalton, Xavier Woods, and Jordan Fuller. While Carolina faces several departures, none were on high-priced contracts, leaving the team with about $29 million in cap space—14th-fewest in the NFL, per Over The Cap.
Regardless of whether they re-sign Corbett, the Panthers are expected to prioritize strengthening their offensive line, as GM Dan Morgan aims to build a solid foundation around Bryce Young. Additionally, Carolina plans to aggressively pursue wide receivers for the second straight offseason to enhance Young’s arsenal.
