Antonio Williams, Clemson Star Receiver, Suffers Hamstring Injury in Season Opener
Clemson Tigers’ star wide receiver Antonio Williams suffered a hamstring injury during the season opener against LSU, forcing him to leave the game early. The injury occurred on the second play of Clemson’s second possession, and Williams was seen grabbing his right hamstring as he limped off the field.[¹](https://www.si.com/college/clemson/football/clemson-provides-update-on-injured-wr-antonio-williams-01k45v5sc117) [²](https://www.on3.com/college/clemson-tigers/news/antonio-williams-injury-update-clemson-star-receiver-heads-to-locker-room-vs-lsu/?yptr=yahoo) [³](https://www.theclemsoninsider.com/2025/08/31/swinneys-sunday-injury-update-on-williams-barnes/)
Coach Dabo Swinney described Williams’ status as “day-to-day” and stated that they’re taking it one day at a time, prioritizing his recovery. Williams, a preseason All-American, had caught at least one pass in each of the previous 33 games before this injury.[⁴](https://www.theclemsoninsider.com/2025/09/03/swinney-gives-wednesday-update-on-williams-barnes/) [⁵](https://www.espn.ph/college-football/story/_/id/46174199/sources-clemson-top-wr-antonio-williams-vs-troy)
The Tigers will face Troy this Saturday without Williams, and Swinney has named Tyler Brown as his replacement. Williams’ absence is a significant blow to Clemson’s offense, given his impressive stats last season: 75 receptions, 904 yards, and 11 touchdowns.
