Bobby Portis, the Milwaukee Bucks forward, has been suspended for 25 games without pay after testing positive for Tramadol, a painkiller that’s been banned by the NBA due to its potential for addiction and performance enhancement.
Portis claims it was an honest mistake, saying he thought he was taking Toradol, an approved pain medication he’s used before. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, explained that the Tramadol pill was given to Portis by an assistant, who mistakenly told him it was Toradol.
The suspension is a significant blow to the Bucks, who will miss Portis’ averages of 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He’ll be eligible to return on April 8, with just four games left in the regular season. The suspension will also cost Portis $2.85 million in salary.
