The Kansas City Chiefs have strategically restructured the contracts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones, freeing up approximately $49.446 million in salary cap space for the 2025 season.
These financial adjustments have enabled the Chiefs to be active in the free-agent market. Notably, they have secured left tackle Jaylon Moore and cornerback Kristian Fulton on multi-year deals, aiming to bolster both their offensive line and secondary.
However, the team has also seen significant departures. Veteran guard Joe Thuney was traded to the Chicago Bears, and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton signed a three-year, $54.1 million contract with the Carolina Panthers, including $30.2 million guaranteed.
Despite these roster changes, the Chiefs maintain a core group of key players, including Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, defensive end George Karlaftis, center Creed Humphrey, and Jones. The team currently has between $4.6 million and $9.7 million in salary cap space, with the exact figure likely around $7.4 million, positioning them to make further strategic moves as the offseason progresses.
