Several players have decommitted from Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class, and one of the standout prospects has now chosen a new destination.
Five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood revealed during his National Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday that he is committing to Michigan. The Denton, Texas, native entered signing day as the final unsigned five-star recruit in ESPN’s rankings and is now headed to Ann Arbor.
Haywood received offers from several top programs, including Florida State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M, but ultimately chose to commit to Alabama last July. His decision was a major win for the Crimson Tide’s 2025 class, propelling them to the No. 1 spot in On3 Sports’ rankings at the time.
However, concern grew for Alabama when Haywood chose not to sign during the Early Signing Period in December. This decision sparked speculation that he might pursue other opportunities, a notion that was confirmed when he officially decommitted on January 13.
Michigan quickly emerged as the frontrunner to secure him, and he made his commitment official on Wednesday. The five-star recruit now joins the same class as elite quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood, who he will be responsible for protecting against Big Ten defenders in the coming years.
Losing Haywood was a significant setback for the Tide, as he was their top-rated decommit in the 2025 cycle. Nonetheless, they managed to secure the commitments of two four-star offensive tackles: Jackson Lloyd from Carmel, California, and Mal Waldrep from Phenix City, Alabama. They also enhanced their offensive line depth by adding Ball State’s Arkel Anugwom via the transfer portal.
