Former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban recently engaged in a heated Facebook exchange with former team employee Gavin Mulloy, addressing criticisms related to the sale of the team and subsequent decisions by the new ownership. Mulloy expressed frustration over the Mavericks’ recent trade of star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, suggesting that Cuban should be “run out of Dallas.”
In response, Cuban questioned Mulloy’s stance, highlighting that Mulloy had not previously voiced such concerns and had received a bonus following the sale. This exchange sheds light on Cuban’s perspective regarding the team’s current direction under new ownership. He revealed that he had anticipated continuing to oversee basketball operations post-sale, stating, “I fully expected to run basketball. The NBA wouldn’t let me put it in the contract. They took it out.”
Cuban also expressed disappointment over the trade of Dončić, criticizing the Mavericks for not securing a better return in the deal. He suggested that the team should have held out for more assets, including additional unprotected first-round picks.
These revelations provide insight into Cuban’s sentiments about the Mavericks’ current trajectory and his limited influence following the sale.
