As Quinn Ewers departs from the Texas Longhorns for the 2025 NFL Draft, speculation is mounting about which team will select him. Some analysts believe the Dallas Cowboys could be a potential landing spot, but just how realistic is that scenario?
Despite battling frequent injuries and setbacks during his college career, Ewers still guided the Longhorns to the College Football Playoffs. Though they fell to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, some fans argue that key decisions by Coach Steve Sarkisian in the fourth quarter, rather than Ewers’ performance, played a crucial role in the loss.
Ewers announced his decision to enter the 2025 NFL Draft in mid-January.
On January 15, Sam Block of ESPN tweeted that as many as 16 teams, including the Cowboys, could be interested in him.
RJ Young of *The Number One College Football Show* also speculated that the Cowboys could target Ewers.
“The Cowboys have since appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their head coach.
However, speculation remains about whether Ewers could be their NFL pick, especially after a tough season in which Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury in Week 9. Additionally, Ewers’ Texas roots could play to his advantage.
The buzz is definitely growing on X. In mid-January, one fan predicted, “Quinn Ewers will be drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd or 3rd round, if not the 1st… Dak Prescott has only three years left. Plenty of time to develop Ewers as the next QB.”
*The Longhorns Wire* weighed in on why Ewers could be a potential Cowboys draft pick, noting that Jerry Jones might favor selecting a Texas native. While Prescott secured a $240 million extension with the team, *The Longhorns Wire* suggested his contract could be restructured to create salary space, allowing him to mentor Ewers.
Many analysts have different predictions for Ewers’ draft destination.
In late January, Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman of *The Athletic* released a mock draft, projecting Ewers to be selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round, where he would start as a backup.
Overall, draft experts expect Ewers to be a mid-to-late second-round pick.
*CBS Sports* suggested the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, or Los Angeles Rams as likely landing spots. They acknowledged his arm as a “clear strength” but not “elite” and pointed out areas for improvement, particularly in ball placement.
“His overall accuracy must improve,” they noted, along with his footwork.
