Uncertainty continues to surround Jamarion Wilcox’s future with the Kentucky Wildcats. The sophomore running back has yet to see the field this season after being suspended for violating team rules. His absence stems from an ongoing legal matter tied to allegations that he was involved in a sexual assault on August 20.
At the time the allegations surfaced, Wilcox had not been formally charged with a crime, though a temporary protective order was issued against him. The lack of resolution in both the legal process and his team status has left fans and the program awaiting further developments.
That situation has now escalated, as Jamarion Wilcox has been officially arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse. University of Kentucky Police took the sophomore running back into custody on Friday, and he was booked at the Fayette County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
According to court documents obtained by The Courier Journal’s Ryan Black, the incident reportedly occurred while Jamarion Wilcox was visiting a woman’s roommate. The woman stated that Wilcox entered her room while she was asleep and got “into my bed, without my consent.” She alleged he was naked and attempted to “forcibly” open her legs.
The petition further claims that after the woman asked Wilcox about her roommate’s whereabouts, he “laughed” and allegedly tried “to start touching me again.” These allegations form the basis of the first-degree sexual abuse charge Wilcox now faces.
The woman eventually fled the room and sought out her roommate for help. Together, they called 911 to report the incident. According to the court documents, when officers arrived on the scene, it reportedly took “at least 20 minutes” before Wilcox was removed from the residence.
A hearing in Jamarion Wilcox’s legal case was held on September 4, with another originally scheduled for November 3. These proceedings have added to the uncertainty surrounding the sophomore running back’s future both on and off the field.
Wilcox has officially been ruled out for Kentucky’s upcoming matchup against South Carolina in Columbia, extending his absence this season. His suspension remains in effect as the legal process continues.
In addition to the sexual abuse case, Wilcox faced separate legal trouble after being cited by Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control. He was charged with four violations for failing to provide proof of rabies vaccinations and licenses for two of his dogs, leading to a court appearance on September 18.
Wilcox’s legal issues don’t end there he also has a court date scheduled in January related to an alleged incident in which he was accused of “racing a vehicle” past a Kentucky State Trooper in Lancaster at a speed that could not be measured by radar.
Once Kentucky’s leading rusher with 590 yards last season, Wilcox has since fallen behind Seth McGowan, Dante Dowdell, and Jason Patterson on the depth chart. His future in Lexington remains uncertain as he navigates these legal challenges.
