Johni Broome put up 24 points while Chad Baker-Mazara contributed 22 as No. 1 Auburn beat Mississippi 106-76 on Wednesday night.
After several home games with poor shooting, Auburn (26-2, 14-1 in the SEC) converted 11 out of 21 three-pointers. The game got underway with a three from Baker-Mazara, who was a last-minute addition due to an undisclosed issue.
Denver Jones, Miles Kelly, and Chaney Johnson each scored 13 points for the Tigers, while Broome—widely considered a top contender for national player of the year—added nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
Ole Miss (19-9, 8-7) was powered by Sean Pedulla’s 14 points and Jaemyn Brakefield’s 13.
For Ole Miss, one of the shortest teams in major college basketball, the Rebels struggled to counter Broome and the Tigers’ interior presence, which made it hard for them to slow down Auburn’s offense in this rematch.
Meanwhile, Auburn had been eager to find its scoring touch again inside Neville Arena and started the game with a strong offensive burst. Although Ole Miss managed to claw back some momentum in the first half, Auburn maintained the lead and closed out the win after halftime.
Auburn surged to a 29-9 lead early on, including hitting 6 of 7 three-pointers. Meanwhile, Ole Miss committed 10 turnovers compared to Auburn’s eight—the first time this season the Rebels ended a game with more turnovers than their opponent.
Looking ahead, Ole Miss is set to host Oklahoma on Saturday, while Auburn will travel to face No. 17 Kentucky.
