KSR Today: Coverage of the second round of the NBA Draft continues, while Kentucky football keeps its momentum rolling on the recruiting trail with a series of recent commitments highlighting a strong summer for Mark Stoops’ staff.

Good morning, everyone! For the first time since 2009, Kentucky men’s basketball didn’t produce a first-round NBA Draft pick. As all 30 selections wrapped up Wednesday night at the Barclays Center, no Wildcat heard his name called. But hope remains for a few former Cats.

Koby Brea and Amari Williams are still in play, both projected to be taken in Thursday night’s second round, which begins at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. According to The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, Brea is projected to go 41st to the Warriors, while Williams is slotted at 55th to the Lakers. However, both players could hear their names called earlier than expected.

If you skipped the first round, you probably had the TV on mute like I did choosing between Kendrick Perkins and Stephen A. Smith is basically deciding between poison and louder poison. As expected, Cooper Flagg went No. 1 overall to the freshly bailed-out Mavericks. The night’s first curveball came at No. 5, when the Jazz selected Ace Bailey, despite reports that he’s not thrilled about playing in Utah. But the biggest shocker came at No. 16, when Portland took 7-foot-1 Chinese center Yang Hansen an unexpected pick that few had projected in the first round.

Mark Pope is still awaiting his first NBA Draft pick as a head coach, but that could change tonight with two potential selections. Meanwhile, John Calipari experienced his first draft without a first-round pick since 2007. Former Kentucky wing Adou Thiero is projected to be selected early in the second round. Remarkably, there’s a real chance Pope ends up with more players drafted this year than Calipari—a sentence that would’ve seemed unthinkable just a short time ago.
