The Los Angeles Lakers will be at full strength after the All-Star break, with head coach J.J. Redick confirming that Luka Doncic will have no minutes restriction when they face the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night.
He’ll be fine,” Redick said, per Mark Medina of Fox Sports and Athlon Sports. “That extra five, six days of All-Star break was good for him. His minutes will be up tomorrow, and I don’t think that there’s going to be any sort of restrictions going forward.”
Doncic has struggled with a recurring calf injury, which was a key factor in the Mavericks’ decision to trade him to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, with Dallas attributing the issue to his inconsistent physical conditioning.
Despite injury concerns, Luka Doncic is a five-time First-Team All-NBA selection who led Dallas to the NBA Finals last season and remains one of the league’s top stars at just 26 years old. The 2018-19 Rookie of the Year has finished in the top eight of MVP voting for five straight seasons, including three top-five finishes, and holds career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
Doncic has played two games with the Lakers, both against the Utah Jazz, averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4 assists in 23.5 minutes per game as he works his way back from a calf injury. His numbers are expected to rise as he gets healthier and adjusts to his new team and system.
