The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Clippers for the second time in three days on Sunday, and the team has released its latest injury report.
Luka Dončić and LeBron James are both listed as questionable, managing left calf and left foot injuries, respectively. However, given they had the same status before Friday’s 106-102 win over the Clippers and still played, they are expected to suit up again.
Meanwhile, Austin Reaves is doubtful due to a right calf strain that forced him to exit Friday’s game in the first quarter, making his availability for the rematch unlikely.
Jordan Goodwin also suffered an injury in Friday’s game, rolling his ankle in the closing moments.
He has been listed as doubtful with a right ankle sprain, making it unlikely he will play in Sunday’s rematch against the Clippers.
With both Goodwin and Austin Reaves doubtful, the Lakers may need to adjust their backcourt rotation for the matchup.
Rui Hachimura and Maxi Kleber have been ruled out for Sunday’s rematch, with Hachimura dealing with left patellar tendinopathy and Kleber recovering from right foot surgery.
Hachimura will be re-evaluated in a week, but the Lakers remain optimistic that his absence won’t be long-term. The same goes for Austin Reaves, despite initial concerns after he didn’t return to Friday’s game.
Fortunately, an MRI brought positive news, and according to NBA insider Shams Charania, Reaves has avoided a serious injury and isn’t expected to be sidelined for an extended period.
“Lakers guard Austin Reaves will be day-to-day after MRI on his right calf revealed no serious injury, sources tell ESPN. His status is uncertain for Sunday against the Clippers, but great development overall after Reaves exited early in Friday’s win.”
Austin Reaves, who is averaging 19.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game this season, avoiding a significant injury is a relief for the Lakers.
However, Dr. Evan Jeffries, DPT, believes Reaves will still miss some time as a precaution. He expects the guard to be sidelined for at least a few days, possibly up to a week.
With Reaves likely out for the short term, the Lakers will need to adjust their backcourt rotation until he returns.
The Lakers have no reason to rush Austin Reaves back, especially given their history of being cautious with injuries. He previously missed five games in December due to a left pelvic contusion, but this absence isn’t expected to be as long.
Despite dealing with multiple injuries, the Lakers have been in great form. Their victory over the Clippers marked their fifth consecutive win, showing their ability to adapt and compete even when shorthanded.
With a 37-21 record this season, the Lakers remain in a strong position as they navigate these injury setbacks.
