Austin, TX– In a move that has sparked excitement and nostalgia across Longhorn Nation, the University of Texas has announced the return of legendary coach Mack Brown, who will serve as a Senior Advisor to the football program. Brown, the coach who led Texas to its 2005 national championship and two title game appearances, will rejoin the program in a mentorship and advisory capacity as the Longhorns gear up for their move to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2025.
Brown, who coached the Longhorns from 1998 to 2013 and amassed 158 wins during his tenure, will collaborate with current Head Coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. His responsibilities will include strategic advising, recruiting support, and sharing his deep knowledge of building and sustaining a top-tier program in the ever-evolving college football landscape.
“We’re thrilled to have Coach Brown back on the Forty Acres,” said UT President Jay Hartzell. “His legacy here is unmatched. He knows the heart of this program and brings a wealth of wisdom as we enter a new era in the SEC.”
Coach Sarkisian echoed that enthusiasm, noting that Brown’s championship pedigree and insights will bring an invaluable perspective. “Having someone like Mack Brown involved is a game-changer,” Sarkisian said. “He knows what it takes to win big at Texas, and his experience in all facets of the game will be an incredible asset.”
Brown, who has remained an influential figure in college football through his work in broadcasting, shared his excitement to return to a place he considers home. “Texas has always been in my heart,” Brown said in the university’s statement. “I fully support Coach Sarkisian and believe in the direction of the program. I’m excited to contribute and help any way I can, especially with the transition to the SEC on the horizon.”
His return couldn’t come at a more critical time. The Longhorns are preparing to enter the SEC, widely considered the most competitive conference in college football. Brown’s experience and connections in the sport are expected to be a major asset as Texas looks to solidify its place among the elite.
Although his role is advisory, Brown’s impact is expected to go beyond the field. His iconic status adds weight to the program’s recruiting efforts and boosts morale within the team. His presence bridges generations of Longhorn football, uniting the program’s rich past with its bold vision for the future.
As Texas heads into this pivotal transition, fans are hopeful that Brown’s return will help guide the program to new heights in the nation’s toughest conference.
