It’s rare for NFL trades to involve only players, but Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department suggested that the Miami Dolphins could make such a move to acquire versatile offensive lineman Joe Thuney.
Bleacher Report suggested that the Dolphins trade veteran offensive tackle Terron Armstead to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for Joe Thuney.
BR’s staff described the trade as an intriguing exchange of two highly skilled linemen who could be good fits for their new teams.
For the Dolphins, this trade would provide an opportunity to strengthen their interior offensive line, a challenge since Mike McDaniel took over. Thuney is among the best in the league, but the Chiefs also need to pay Trey Smith this offseason. Their greater concern, however, is at left tackle, where Thuney had to step in during the postseason.
This trade would create a comparable financial commitment for both teams. While Thuney has been more reliable and durable, he doesn’t play as high-value a position as Armstead. On the other hand, Armstead has faced injury and availability issues but fills a more difficult position to replace. Ultimately, this deal could strengthen both offensive lines.
Regardless of the outcome against the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9, Thuney has already secured four Super Bowl titles—two with the Chiefs and two with the Patriots. He has also been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons.
Despite dealing with injuries, Armstead started 15 games in 2024. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl in both 2022 and 2023.
