Defensive lineman Micheal Clemons, despite heavy criticism and being seen as a downgrade after being thrust into a starting role due to roster changes, qualified for a PPE pay raise alongside Breece Hall for his 2024 performance, according to Over the Cap projections.
Players drafted between rounds 2 and 7 become eligible for PPE raises after their third season, with the raise primarily based on playing time. Defensive lineman Clemons, who played 54 percent of defensive snaps last season, saw his base salary jump from $985,000 to $3.3 million. While the Jets can still release him with minimal dead cap penalties, if he remains on the roster in 2025 he’ll earn more than triple his originally expected salary. Similarly, Hall’s base salary will increase from $1.5 million to $3.3 million, which will impact the salary cap.
