Notre Dame’s football program has made significant strides in recruiting 5-star EDGE prospect Rodney Dunham from Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park High School. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds, Dunham is recognized for his exceptional athleticism and versatility on the field.
Dunham’s recruitment by Notre Dame began with the Pot of Gold Day push in March 2024, during which he received a scholarship offer from the Fighting Irish. This offer held substantial weight for Dunham, who expressed appreciation for Notre Dame’s storied football history and academic excellence. He highlighted the university’s strong foundation and high standards, noting his excitement to learn more about all aspects of the program.
In April 2024, Dunham visited South Bend for the first time to attend a spring practice. The visit exceeded his expectations, with Dunham stating, “The visit was great and I felt welcomed.” He particularly valued the one-on-one meetings with the coaching staff, appreciating their honesty and the genuine nature of their interactions. Dunham remarked, “What they were telling me and how they were acting is how they really are. That’s important.”
The relationship between Dunham and the Notre Dame coaching staff has been consistently strong. He noted that the coaches maintain regular communication, checking in weekly to discuss his progress and well-being. Dunham emphasized, “They’ve been recruiting me the best so far.”
Dunham’s athletic prowess is evident in his sophomore season statistics, where he recorded 55 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, seven sacks, 20 quarterback pressures, three interceptions, three pass breakups, and a blocked field goal. Beyond football, he is also a standout baseball player, having pitched a fastball exceeding 90 miles per hour, and is considering the possibility of playing both sports at the collegiate level.
As of March 2025, Dunham has narrowed his top five schools to Notre Dame, Duke, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Notre Dame’s consistent and genuine approach has positioned them as a strong contender in his recruitment. Dunham has expressed a high opinion of the university, stating, “I think everything the school has to offer is amazing. I see myself potentially fitting well, as a football player and a student.”
While Dunham has not yet made a final decision, Notre Dame’s efforts have undoubtedly placed them in a favorable position to secure this elite defensive talent.
