Alabama Crimson Tide legend John Hannah, one of the greatest offensive linemen in football history, is making headlines once again—this time for his incredible generosity. The Hall of Famer, affectionately nicknamed “Hog,” has donated a stunning $50 million to his alma mater, the Alabama Crimson Tide football.
Hannah, who starred for the Crimson Tide before being selected fourth overall by the New England Patriots in the 1973 NFL Draft, had a storied career both in college and the pros. At Alabama, he was a two-time All-American and laid the foundation for what would become an iconic NFL journey. During his 13 seasons with the Patriots, Hannah earned nine Pro Bowl selections and was named a first-team All-Pro seven times. Sports Illustrated famously dubbed him “the best offensive lineman of all time” in 1981.
His impact on the game was immortalized with his 1991 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, followed by enshrinement in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. He was also the very first inductee into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame.
Now, with his generous $50 million contribution, Hannah is giving back to the place that helped launch his legendary career, ensuring future generations of Crimson Tide athletes can thrive both on and off the field.
