Jalen Brown, who began the 2024 season as a wide receiver for Florida State, is no longer with the program following a recent dismissal. His departure was confirmed Saturday, along with news that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Shortly after his dismissal, the reason behind it was made public. Brown was arrested in Leon County on a third-degree felony charge related to possession of a controlled substance. He was subsequently released from jail after posting a $2,500 bond.
According to Curt Weiler of Osceola Rivals, Brown’s arrest took place early Saturday morning, and he was officially dismissed from the team within 12 hours. The incident marks another abrupt end to a brief stint at a college program, as Brown had only been at Florida State for one season after transferring from LSU.
Brown originally started his collegiate career at LSU but transferred to FSU, where head coach Mike Norvell believed he had landed a promising player. Expectations were high for Brown, especially as Florida State looked to revamp its offense heading into 2025.
Though his role remained limited, Brown did see some action in 2024. He recorded eight receptions for 75 yards across five games, with coaches expecting his responsibilities to grow in the coming season.
Now, instead of preparing for an increased role, Brown must address the legal challenges facing him. His future on the field remains uncertain as he enters the transfer portal amid ongoing legal issues.
Brown will be seeking a third college program to continue his football career, though his arrest and dismissal could impact his chances. Programs considering him will likely weigh his athletic potential against the off-field concerns.
