A New York Jets player was held at gunpoint and robbed in New Jersey over the weekend after authorities said he and another individual were “targeted” following a visit to Manhattan, according to a report.
The Morristown Department of Public Safety confirmed in a statement this week that two people were robbed at gunpoint in the Windmill Pond area on Saturday around 8 p.m. ET.
According to the statement, a witness reported seeing a group of unidentified males exit a dark-colored SUV and rob two individuals at gunpoint while they were inside a second vehicle. The suspects allegedly stole money and personal belongings before fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported, but police believe the victims were “targeted and followed from Manhattan.”
Authorities described the incident as isolated and did not confirm the victims’ identities. However, a neighbor told NBC New York that one of the victims was a current New York Jets player.
