Rick Pitino Hints at St. John’s-Kentucky Exhibition Matchup
It sounds like a return to Lexington may be on the horizon for Rick Pitino—this time with his St. John’s squad.
Speaking recently, Pitino revealed that St. John’s is in talks to play an exhibition game against Kentucky in Rupp Arena. While the original plan was to schedule a regular-season home-and-home series, those discussions ultimately didn’t come to fruition.
“We may be going to Kentucky for an exhibition game,” Pitino said. “We were hoping to go there for a regular game, but they can’t, they can’t get it done, unfortunately. We were hoping to do a home-and-home with them.”
Pitino’s potential return to Lexington would undoubtedly draw plenty of attention. The Hall of Fame coach led Kentucky to a national title in 1996 before moving on to the NBA and later Louisville.
While nothing is official yet, a preseason matchup between St. John’s and Kentucky would be a must-watch moment for college hoops fans—especially with the history Pitino brings back to Big Blue Nation.
