Texas Longhorns men’s basketball head coach Rodney Terry is reportedly on the hot seat as the team approaches the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Pete Thamel discussed Terry’s uncertain job status and potential replacements during a recent segment on College Basketball Live.
Thamel noted that Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte has a history of having potential candidates in mind before making coaching changes. Before promoting Terry to full-time head coach in March 2023, Del Conte reportedly explored options such as Quin Snyder, now head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, and Sean Miller of Xavier University. While Snyder is unlikely to be a candidate this time, Thamel suggests that Del Conte may pursue other prominent names in the sport.
Despite leading the Longhorns to three NCAA Tournament appearances in as many seasons, including an Elite Eight run in the 2022-23 season, Terry’s future with the program appears to hinge on a strong performance in the upcoming tournament. Additionally, the team’s recent struggles in recruiting have raised concerns, with their 2025 class currently ranked second to last in the SEC.
As the Longhorns prepare for March Madness, the pressure is on for Terry to demonstrate his capability to lead the team to success and secure his position as head coach.
