Ryan Clark shares a heartfelt message following the tragic death of Kyren Lacy.

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was tragically found dead on Sunday in what authorities believe to be an apparent suicide, according to WRBZ, a Baton Rouge television station. He was just 24 years old, and his sudden passing has deeply affected the football community.

In the wake of Lacy’s death, numerous prominent figures in the sport have shared their grief and condolences. Among them, former NFL safety and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark took to social media on Monday to express his sorrow and emphasize the critical need for greater awareness and support around mental health.

“It’s sad. It’s tragic, in some ways. It’s unfathomable,” said ESPN analyst and former NFL safety Ryan Clark, reflecting on the death of Kyren Lacy. He recalled the start of their bond during a speech he gave at LSU, where he shared his own struggles with illness and the power of resilience. Clark had created an acronym out of the word “D.I.E.” to inspire leadership and brotherhood, and Lacy was the first to respond, saying, “Coach, I’ll die about it,” showing his deep commitment to the game and his teammates. Lacy, who had declared for the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout 2024 season with 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, had transferred to LSU after beginning his college career at the University of Louisiana. While he found success on the field, Lacy was privately battling serious issues, including pending felony charges from a January arrest.

Despite being out on bond and cooperating with authorities, Lacy was facing immense pressure as a grand jury prepared to hear his case. Clark used the tragedy to urge anyone struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts to reach out, stressing the importance of being seen and heard. “Let the people who love you tell you why your life matters,” he pleaded. He questioned what might’ve changed if Lacy had received the outpouring of love earlier, before it was too late. Clark emphasized that even those with outward joy can feel invisible pain, and ended his message with compassion: “To anybody who is feeling that life is so overwhelming, not breathing is a better option, I’m sorry and I hope you tell somebody.”
