Initially, the former Chiefs wide receiver doubted the rookie quarterback’s potential. He didn’t expect him to perform well during his first year.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who played alongside Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for years, praised his former teammate ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl. He had only positive things to say about Mahomes and their time together.
However, Hill acknowledged that he didn’t always see Mahomes as a future elite quarterback.
Actually, when Hill first saw Mahomes as a rookie, he had the opposite impression.
“When he first joined the Chiefs, I thought, ‘This guy’s going to be terrible!'” Hill told Sports Illustrated. “But I couldn’t have been more wrong. Once you see his arm strength and realize he can launch the ball 85 yards—even off his back foot—you understand he’s something special.”
With Mahomes and the Chiefs, Hill established himself as one of the NFL’s top receivers, recording 479 catches for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns over six seasons in Kansas City. He also won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs, which remains his only championship as a pro.
