For several years, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns’ recruiting team have been on a tear, and their hard work paid off this offseason by landing the No. 1 overall recruiting class for 2025. Now, Sarkisian is looking to repeat that success by targeting key prospects in the upcoming weeks.
Texas has already secured their next standout quarterback recruit, Dia Bell, to lead the 2026 class. They’ve also added a star wide receiver and a strong, big-bodied offensive tackle. Now, Sarkisian and his staff are going all in by pursuing a top-tier five-star offensive tackle from across the country.
Kodi Greene, a five-star offensive tackle, has been viewed as a Top 50 recruit nationally for the 2026 cycle, but his stock has been rising in recent months. His upgrade to five-star status came after he added size to his impressive frame while continuing to dominate against top-tier competition at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California.
As the 2025 high school football season approaches, Greene has been drawing increasing interest from elite programs, solidifying his position as one of the top three offensive tackles in the country. Although Texas initially lagged behind—with Oregon securing a verbal commitment after a close contest with Washington and USC—the Longhorns are now firmly in the mix to flip him.
Steve Wiltfong reported that Kodi Greene, once seen as almost certain to join Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks, is now seriously considering an offer from Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns. Greene has built a strong rapport with several members of the Texas staff, particularly Kyle Flood, the team’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. This connection is expected to be crucial as spring unofficial visits and final official visits take place in the coming months.
Green has repeatedly expressed—and most recently reiterated this week—his enthusiasm for the direction and future of the Texas Longhorns program. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he might even get the chance to protect Arch Manning for a season in 2026. Furthermore, with both Kelvin Banks Jr. and Cameron Williams expected to be among the Top 50 picks in this spring’s 2025 NFL Draft, Texas is looking even more attractive as a destination for him.
Kodi Greene hasn’t officially committed yet, and there’s still much progress to be made. However, the prospects are looking promising for the Longhorns. Texas extended an offer to him this January, and now he’s recognizing them as a serious contender for his skills. Let’s hope that Steve Sarkisian, Kyle Flood, and the rest of the Longhorns’ staff can finalize the deal soon.
