Steve Sarkisian’s announcement comes as no surprise.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian isn’t interested in manufacturing a storyline for next season—with Quinn Ewers off to the NFL, Arch Manning is set to take over as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback in 2025.

During Thursday’s appearance on the “Up & Adams” show, Sarkisian was asked if he was ready to name Manning the starting quarterback. He laughed and all but confirmed there won’t be a QB competition in Austin this summer.

Sarkisian acknowledged that Manning is the clear frontrunner for the starting job, saying, “It would be pretty tough for me to say he’s probably not gonna be our starting quarterback.” He highlighted Manning’s strong performances in spot starts last season, including Texas’ first SEC game against Mississippi State, and expressed confidence in his readiness while emphasizing that he still needs to earn the role.

Manning saw action this season, completing 67.8% of his passes for 939 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions while also rushing for 108 yards and 4 scores. Sarkisian utilized the former 5-star recruit in specific packages late in the year. Though there was speculation about a possible transfer before Ewers declared for the NFL Draft, that was never a serious possibility. Now, Manning will get his long-awaited chance to prove himself next season.
