Texas hires former OK State coach Jason McEndoo

Jason McEndoo, a veteran Big 12 assistant coach under Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State, is joining the Longhorns’ staff ahead of the 2025 offseason.

Jason McEndoo, who previously coached tight ends and fullbacks at Oklahoma State, has joined the Texas Longhorns’ coaching staff.

This announcement follows Jason McEndoo’s 10-year tenure on Mike Gundy’s coaching staff at Oklahoma State.

According to Horns247’s Eric Henry on February 17, Jason McEndoo has officially joined Texas’s coaching staff for the 2025 offseason, where he will assist with coaching tight ends and potentially a “Cowboy back” hybrid role. With over two decades of coaching experience, McEndoo previously played alongside Texas coaches Jeff Banks and Johnny Nansen at Washington State in the 1990s.

Jason McEndoo’s first college coaching opportunity came in 2003 with the FCS Montana State Bobcats, where he coached the offensive line from 2003 to 2014, many of those years alongside current Texas co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski.

At Montana State, McEndoo coached several successful offensive lines that helped the Bobcats reach the FCS playoffs, including developing Mike Person, a 2011 seventh-round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers. He was later hired by Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State to coach the “Cowboy back” position, where he helped develop multiple All-Big 12 selections and NFL players, including Blake Jarwin and Jelani Woods.

McEndoo coached the Cowboy backs until the 2022 season, when he was promoted to the full tight ends and fullbacks coach at Oklahoma State.

This hire is expected to boost the development of several young and talented tight ends for the Longhorns heading into the 2025 season, including freshman Jordan Washington and sophomore Spencer Shannon, as well as two blue-chip incoming true freshmen, Emaree Winston and Nick Townsend.
