On Tuesday night, the No. 22 Texas A&M Aggies achieved a historic 83-72 victory over the top-ranked Auburn Tigers, marking their first-ever win against an AP No. 1 team. The Aggies led from start to finish, with Zhuric Phelps contributing 19 points off the bench, Wade Taylor IV adding 16 points, and Pharrel Payne scoring 12 points. This win ended Texas A&M’s four-game losing streak and snapped Auburn’s six-game winning streak.
Texas A&M’s dominance on the offensive glass was a key factor, as they out-rebounded Auburn 24-9 in that category, leading to 29 second-chance points. Auburn’s leading scorer, Johni Broome, was limited to just eight points while dealing with a shoulder issue.
This victory is particularly significant for the Aggies, as it represents their first triumph over a top-ranked team in program history.
