The Tennessee Lady Volunteers softball team achieved a significant milestone by securing their first Southeastern Conference (SEC) series sweep of the season with a 4-1 victory over Auburn at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. This win not only improved their overall record to 37-9 and 12-6 in SEC play but also marked their 21st series win out of the last 23 in conference play, with nine of those being sweeps.

The game began as a pitching duel, with both teams scoreless until the bottom of the second inning. Tennessee capitalized on a two-out error and a walk, loading the bases. A wild pitch then allowed Gabby Leach to score, giving the Lady Vols a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Tennessee’s offense surged. Senior Kinsey Fiedler led off with a double, and after an intentional walk to Taylor Pannell, McKenna Gibson singled to center, bringing Fiedler home. Another intentional walk loaded the bases, and Laura Mealer delivered a two-RBI single to right field, extending the lead to 4-0.
Auburn managed to score in the sixth inning with a two-out RBI single, but Tennessee’s pitching staff maintained control to secure the win. Sophomore right-hander Sage Mardjetko earned her 10th win of the season, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings, striking out five.
Junior Karlyn Pickens closed the game in the seventh inning, earning her second save in as many days by giving up just one hit and preserving the victory.
This series sweep over Auburn adds to Tennessee’s impressive record against the Tigers, having won their last four series matchups, including three sweeps.
The Lady Vols’ consistent performance highlights their dominance in the SEC and their potential for postseason success. Their ability to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes and deliver in clutch situations has been a hallmark of their season.
