Zion Elee On3’s top-ranked overall prospect, had originally lined up six official visits this spring to South Carolina, Auburn, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A&M, and Maryland. After committing to hometown Maryland, he canceled most of those trips, only visiting Auburn and planning to follow through with Maryland. However, he announced on Tuesday that he’ll make one last visit to South Carolina. Elee will be in Columbia on Saturday, June 14th, as part of the Fast Track Recruits’ bus tour, which includes a camp where he’ll reconnect with some of the Gamecock coaches.
Zion Elee is an exceptional athlete with rare physical tools. At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, he runs the 40-yard dash in the 4.3-second range and still has room to add muscle without sacrificing explosiveness. His quickness off the edge overwhelms offensive linemen, making it difficult for them to stay in front of him. When they try to anticipate his speed, he shifts gears and uses his power to bulldoze through them.
Zion Elee is a rare athletic talent with an elite combination of size and speed. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 230 pounds, he clocks a 40-yard dash in the 4.3-second range and still has the potential to add more weight without losing his explosiveness. His speed off the edge overwhelms offensive linemen, often leaving them grasping at air. When they try to adjust to his quickness, Elee shifts tactics and uses his strength to power through their blocks with ease.
Given Zion Elee’s elite talent, it’s no surprise that South Carolina—and virtually every other major program—has made efforts to sway him from his commitment to Maryland. Gamecocks defensive ends coach and run game coordinator Sterling Lucas even visited Elee at home this spring, well after he committed to the Terrapins. While Elee remains pledged to Maryland, South Carolina will get one final opportunity to impress him during his brief visit to Columbia. He’ll spend just a day on campus before continuing the bus tour with a stop at Wake Forest.
