Tragic News: LSU WR Kyren Lacy Dead at 24. The Reason for Untimely Death Revealed

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy has tragically passed away, as reported by Jacques Doucet. Lacy had recently declared for the 2025 NFL Draft after completing a standout college football career.

He began at Louisiana, spending two seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns before transferring to LSU, where he spent his final three years and truly emerged as a top playmaker in 2024. In his final season, Lacy recorded 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging nearly 15 yards per catch. Over the course of his collegiate career, he totaled 162 receptions for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns, leaving behind a legacy of consistency and explosive play.

In his final college football season, Kyren Lacy delivered a strong performance, recording 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 14.9 yards per catch. Over his collegiate career, which included time at both Louisiana and LSU, he totaled 162 catches for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns, averaging 14.3 yards per reception.

Lacy came out of Thibodaux High School in Louisiana as part of the Class of 2020. According to the On3 Industry Ranking—a composite measure from four major recruiting services—he was rated as a three-star prospect. He ranked as the No. 36 overall player in Louisiana, the No. 166 wide receiver nationally, and the No. 997 prospect in the entire class.

In December 2024, Lacy was involved in a serious car accident that led to multiple criminal charges, including negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving. The incident tragically resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two others. Allegations claimed Lacy played a role in causing the crash and left the scene afterward.

After cooperating with authorities, Lacy was released on a $151,000 bail on January 12, 2025. His attorney, Matthew Ory, released a detailed statement in February defending Lacy’s innocence and addressing the nature of the accident and his client’s alleged involvement.

Ory stated that Lacy had been driving on a multi-lane road and had passed other vehicles safely before returning to his lane. He claimed the fatal accident occurred in front of Lacy’s car when a different vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with the car in which the victim, Mr. Herman, was a passenger. Ory emphasized that Lacy’s car did not strike any other vehicle and was not the cause of the crash.

According to Ory, another vehicle was cited for the collision, and Lacy’s actions were not to blame. He also clarified that there was no suspicion of alcohol or drug involvement and that Lacy did not return to the accident scene, as some reports suggested. He refuted any notion that Lacy’s social media activity after the incident was meant to downplay the tragedy.

Ory concluded by saying that Lacy continued with his life—including training and sharing graduation photos—not because he was callous, but because he did not believe he was at fault for the accident. His legal team remained confident that the full truth would clear his name of any wrongdoing in the incident.
