The Golden State Warriors will celebrate Andre Iguodala’s legacy this Sunday by retiring his #9 jersey in a special ceremony following their game against the Dallas Mavericks, making him the seventh player in franchise history to receive the honor.
The Warriors are going all out to honor Andre Iguodala, with players already wearing custom “I want Iguodala” shirts ahead of the ceremony.
Although Iguodala has just one All-Star selection, his influence on the game goes beyond individual honors, placing him among rare company alongside 13 Hall of Famers who never made an All-Star team and four others with only one appearance.
Iguodala played a crucial role in the Warriors’ dynasty, especially after Steve Kerr’s bold move to bring him off the bench—a change he embraced. When it mattered most in the NBA Finals, he stepped into the starting lineup to guard LeBron James. His accomplishments put him in elite company, as one of just 12 players in NBA history with multiple All-Defensive team selections, four championships, and an All-Star appearance, alongside legends like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kobe Bryant. With Hall of Fame eligibility approaching in 2027, his legacy as one of basketball’s greats is secure, making his jersey retirement a well-deserved honor.
