TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — President Donald Trump is set to visit Alabama on May 1, 2025, where he will deliver a major speech at the University of Alabama. The announcement was made late Monday night via his Truth Social platform, where Trump shared that he will be giving commencement speeches at two notable institutions—The University of Alabama and West Point.
In his social media post, Trump expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming engagements, referring to both schools as “really GREAT places.” The University of Alabama’s commencement activities will take place over the weekend of May 2, but Trump’s keynote address is scheduled separately for Thursday, May 1.
The university confirmed that Trump’s speech will take place at Coleman Coliseum and will be a ticketed event. All students graduating in 2025 will have access to this keynote in addition to their individual college ceremonies held later in the weekend.
University officials emphasized that they are working closely with security teams and event staff to ensure smooth operations during Trump’s visit. Details about how graduates can obtain tickets and additional event logistics will be released soon.
The University of Alabama expressed excitement about the upcoming celebrations, saying commencement is a time to honor the achievements of thousands of students. These graduates are expected to go on to contribute significantly both professionally and within their communities, locally and globally.
Trump’s upcoming appearance will mark his third visit to the university. He previously attended two major football games there, including last season’s highly anticipated matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Notably, this will be the first time in history that a sitting U.S. president will deliver the commencement speech at the University of Alabama. Senator Katie Britt highlighted the historic nature of the event, saying it will add a special touch to an already momentous weekend.
Britt added that Alabamians are eager to welcome Trump back to Tuscaloosa. She praised the Class of 2025 for their perseverance and accomplishments, noting that the president’s presence will make their graduation even more unforgettable.
However, not everyone is celebrating. The University of Alabama Democrats have publicly criticized Trump’s upcoming appearance. In a statement, they accused his administration of unjustly detaining a Ph.D. student and holding him without bond at an ICE facility in Louisiana.
The group labeled Trump’s invitation to speak as an insult and promised to organize in response. They indicated more updates would be shared soon, vowing that what they view as a disrespectful decision “will not go unanswered.”
