One of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense attorneys, Anthony Ricco, has filed a motion to withdraw from Combs’ criminal sex trafficking case. In his filing, Ricco stated, “Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs.” He did not provide specific reasons for his departure, citing attorney-client privilege. Ricco assured that his withdrawal would not delay the trial, which is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025. Combs continues to be represented by five other attorneys.
Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. He has been in custody without bail since his arrest in September 2024. Prosecutors allege that Combs used his wealth and influence to coerce victims into drug-fueled sexual activities, employing intimidation and violence. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 15 years to life in prison.
In addition to the criminal charges, Combs is confronting over 40 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and misconduct spanning several decades. Recently, his legal team sought to dismiss a charge under the Mann Act, arguing that the law has historically been used to target Black men and claiming selective prosecution.
