When Saquon Barkley departed New York to sign a three-year, $37.75 million deal with the Eagles, he made a pledge to several of his new teammates in Philadelphia.
“When we first got him, he seemed to recognize the talent of our O-line, just as we recognized the kind of running back we had,” said left tackle Jordan Mailata, via USA Today. “Even before the season started—back in OTAs—he told us, ‘If I win the rushing title, I’ll get you guys Rolexes.’”
Mailata shared with USA Today that a few weeks ago, he received a text reminding him to pick up his Rolex—a gift he had completely forgotten about by then.
“We were like, ‘Oh, we totally forgot about that,’” Mailata said. “But he stayed true to his word. I guess we hadn’t known him long enough to realize he was serious, but he’s a man of integrity with real character.”
Barkley, named this season’s Offensive Player of the Year, ran for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns on 345 carries in his debut season with Philadelphia.
