Ohio State Buckeyes to Be Honored by President Donald Trump at White House on April 14
The 2025 College Football Playoff National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes will officially be recognized by President Donald Trump during a White House visit on April 14, CBS News announced Friday afternoon. This prestigious honor comes nearly four months after Ohio State’s 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in the CFP National Championship Game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Buckeyes’ visit continues the long-standing tradition of national championship teams being celebrated at the White House, marking a proud moment for the program, players, and fans.
An avid sports fan and regular golfer, President Donald Trump was unable to attend the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship Game due to it taking place on Inauguration Day. However, the 45th and 47th president still made his presence felt, delivering a pre-recorded message that aired during halftime of the game. Despite his absence, Trump will officially honor the Ohio State Buckeyes at the White House on April 14, recognizing their 34-23 victory over Notre Dame.
“This has been a historic and exciting day,” Trump said in the video, referencing his swearing-in as the 47th president of the United States, according to CBS News. “In recent years, our people have suffered greatly but starting now we’re going to bring America back and make it safer, richer, prouder than ever before.”
Ohio State will be the second sports champion to visit the White House since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, following the Florida Panthers’ visit in February after winning the 2024 Stanley Cup. The Buckeyes will be honored on April 14 for their 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship victory, continuing the long-standing tradition of championship teams visiting the White House. Later in April, the Super Bowl LIX champion Philadelphia Eagles are also scheduled to make their visit, marking a busy month for sports celebrations in Washington.
