The Texas Longhorns are actively assembling their 2026 recruiting class and appear to have an advantage in landing one of the nation’s top edge rusher prospects.
Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports officially predicted on Monday that Texas will secure Temple, TX, defensive end Jamarion Carlton. The four-star prospect, who participated in UT’s junior day events in Austin on Saturday, is ranked as a Top 10 player at his position nationally by On3, 247 Sports, and Rivals.
Carlton has been attracting offers from many of the nation’s top programs, and it’s clear why. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 240 pounds, the Central Texas standout combines size, length, and athleticism, making him a formidable pass rusher for any team. As a junior at Temple High School last season, he recorded 34 solo tackles, 13 quarterback hurries, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks.
“Appears to be one of the higher-upside defensive linemen in Texas high school football’s 2026 class,” said 247 Sports analyst Gabe Brooks. “Shows impressive, explosive power for his age and frame, with plenty of room to grow and develop further.”
Texas extended an official offer to Carlton during their Elite Camp last June and has been focused on securing his commitment ever since. He followed up with an unofficial visit to the 40 Acres later that month and, most recently, attended junior day this past weekend. However, the Longhorns face strong competition from in-state rivals Texas A&M and Baylor, who are also actively recruiting the talented prospect.
The Longhorns currently have two commitments for their 2026 recruiting class: four-star quarterback Dia Bell from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and three-star wide receiver Chris Stewart from Pearland, TX. Adding a commitment from Carlton could help build momentum as Texas looks to follow up their 2025 class, which is expected to finish as the nation’s top-ranked group.
