Ra’Shaad Samples, a Dallas native and former assistant wide receivers coach for the Texas Longhorns, is reportedly returning to the team as the new running backs coach. This move follows the departure of Tashard Choice, who left Texas to join the Detroit Lions in the same role.
Samples began his coaching career at the University of Houston in 2016 as a student assistant. He later joined the Longhorns in 2018 under head coach Tom Herman, serving as an assistant wide receivers coach and on-campus recruiting coordinator.
After his tenure at Texas, Samples held positions at SMU, the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona State, and most recently, the University of Oregon, where he served as the assistant head coach and running backs coach.
Known for his dynamic personality and recruiting prowess, Samples has been instrumental in securing top talent, including five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore during his time at Oregon. His return to Texas is anticipated to bolster the Longhorns’ recruiting efforts and enhance the performance of the running backs unit.
Expressing his enthusiasm about rejoining the Longhorns, Samples stated, “I am coming back to revive the team and see us win again.” His homecoming is expected to strengthen Texas’s coaching staff and contribute to the team’s pursuit of success in the upcoming seasons.
