Are Georgia football fans undervaluing this past season? The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season at 10-2, securing a spot in the SEC Championship, where they defeated Texas for the second time, winning the title with backup QB Gunner Stockton.
This victory secured Georgia the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff, but it didn’t benefit them as they fell to Notre Dame in the opening round.
Given these achievements, one might expect Georgia fans to be satisfied with the 2024 season, but that’s not true for everyone—something former South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier recently highlighted.
“Some people are claiming Georgia didn’t have a good season, which is ridiculous,” Spurrier said in an interview with Dawgnation.
Spurrier emphasized that Georgia fans should be more appreciative of Kirby Smart after suggesting they didn’t value the 2024 season enough.
It’s possible to feel both satisfaction and disappointment at once. While most Georgia fans recognize the positives from the 2024 season, a small group still sees it as a letdown. However, since the majority don’t share this view, it’s unfair to label the entire fanbase that way.
The best way to assess the 2024 season is to acknowledge Georgia’s many achievements and successes while also recognizing that they fell well short of expectations. Their ultimate goal was a National Championship, but the Bulldogs ended up three wins away from reaching it.
Winning 10 regular-season games and an SEC Championship is undeniably impressive, but it’s also fair to acknowledge both Georgia’s successes and shortcomings this season. Spurrier, however, seems to overlook that fans can feel both satisfaction and disappointment simultaneously.
