
The Dallas Mavericks have suspended assistant coach Darrell Armstrong after his arrest on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, following an incident in which he allegedly hit a woman with a gun and threatened to shoot her, according to Dallas police.

“The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings,” the team said. “This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.”
This marks the 10th full season Darrell Armstrong has been part of the Dallas Mavericks coaching staff, having joined midway through the 2008-09 season, and he has spent eight seasons as the team’s top assistant during the Summer League, including being part of the staff that won the 2011 NBA Finals.
Darrell Armstrong, a 14-season NBA veteran, won the Sixth Man Award and Most Improved Player Award in 1999 with the Orlando Magic, and played for five teams, including two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks from 2004-06, where he was part of the 2005-06 team that reached the NBA Finals but lost to the Miami Heat in six games.
