It’s now official—Ryan Grubb has been named the new offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, Alabama football announced Thursday.
Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb have a long history of coaching together, and Grubb expresses gratitude for the opportunity to reunite with DeBoer.
Grubb expressed his gratitude for the chance to reunite with Coach DeBoer and join an offensive staff he knows well. He voiced confidence in the staff’s ability to position the team for success and emphasized his trust in the dedication of both coaches and players to uphold Alabama’s high standards. Grubb added that he is eager to get on the field and start working with the team.
With DeBoer and Grubb now on Alabama’s coaching staff, this will be the fifth time they have worked together, having previously coached at Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington.
During their time at Washington, DeBoer and Grubb guided the Huskies to the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, thanks to a high-powered offense led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and wide receiver Rome Odunze. Both players, developed under DeBoer and Grubb, became first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Grubb was initially hired by DeBoer as Alabama’s offensive coordinator last year before accepting the same role with the Seattle Seahawks for the 2024 NFL season. After a year in the NFL, Grubb is reuniting with DeBoer in Tuscaloosa.
“Ryan Grubb is someone I have trusted for a long time, and his addition only strengthens our coaching staff at Alabama,” DeBoer said. “He is one of the top offensive minds in the country, and I’m excited to see the impact he will have on our program moving forward.”
