Todd Golden has etched his name in Florida Gators history, joining Billy Donovan as the only head coaches to lead the program to an SEC Tournament championship. With Florida’s 86-77 victory over Tennessee in the 2025 SEC Tournament final, Golden secured his first conference tournament title and the program’s fifth overall.
Billy Donovan, a legendary figure in Gators basketball, guided Florida to four SEC Tournament championships in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2014. Now, over a decade later, Golden has added his name to that exclusive list, solidifying his impact on the program.
Golden’s squad dominated the tournament with tough defense, elite rebounding, and efficient shooting, a testament to his coaching philosophy. Led by Walter Clayton Jr., the tournament MVP, and key contributions from Will Richard and Alex Condon, the Gators proved they are once again a force in the SEC.
This victory marks a turning point for Florida basketball under Golden, showing that the program is back in championship form. With the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, the Gators look poised for a deep run, and Golden’s achievement only strengthens his growing legacy in Gainesville.
