The NFL paid tribute to Virginia McCaskey and Dick Jauron with a special video that aired inside Caesars Superdome two hours before the Super Bowl kickoff. The tribute honored players, coaches, and executives who had passed away over the past year, with McCaskey receiving particular recognition.
McCaskey, the longtime matriarch of the Chicago Bears, passed away Thursday at the age of 102. In the league’s tribute, her name stood alone alongside her photo—an honor given to only a select few. She was also the final person featured in the montage, which played over instrumental music on the stadium’s scoreboard.
Jauron, who served as the Bears’ head coach from 1999 to 2003 and was named Coach of the Year in 2001, was also included in the tribute. He passed away from cancer on Saturday. In addition to his tenure with the Bears, Jauron also led the Buffalo Bills as head coach from 2006 to 2009.
McCaskey, the daughter of Bears founder George Halas, will be honored with a wake on Tuesday, followed by a private funeral on Wednesday.
